Natalia Sinelnikova

Vita

Natalia Sinelnikova is a director and writer based in Berlin. Born in St. Petersburg, she immigrated to Germany with her parents in the 1990s. She studied theatre and photography at the University of Hildesheim and film directing at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam. Her award-winning and critically acclaimed debut feature WE MIGHT AS WELL BE DEAD, co-written with Viktor Gallandi, premiered at the Berlinale 2022 as the opening film of the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section and was nominated for the GWFF Award for Best First Feature, before screening in the International Competition at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the Award for Best Cinematography. WE MIGHT AS WELL BE DEAD screened at more than forty film festivals worldwide, receiving numerous international awards. Among others, it was nominated for the German Film Critics’ Award for Best Debut Feature, Best Screenplay, and Best Music, and was shortlisted for the German Film Award. Following its German theatrical release in autumn 2022, the film was released in North American cinemas in May 2023. Natalia Sinelnikova is a Berlinale Talents and ZFF Academy alumna and a member of the European Film Academy.

Natalia Sinelnikova ist freischaffende Regisseurin und Drehbuchautorin. Sie wurde in St. Petersburg geboren und wuchs in Berlin auf. Sie studierte Kulturwissenschaften und Ästhetische Praxis an der Universität Hildesheim mit den Schwerpunkten Fotografie und Theater sowie Filmregie an der Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. Ihr mehrfach ausgezeichneter und von der Kritik hochgelobter erster Kinospielfilm WIR KÖNNTEN GENAUSO GUT TOT SEIN (in Ko-Autorenschaft mit Viktor Gallandi) feierte 2022 auf der Berlinale seine Uraufführung als Eröffnungsfilm der Sektion Perspektive Deutsches Kino und war für den GWFF Award – Bestes Debüt nominiert. Seine internationale Premiere feierte der Film auf dem Tribeca Film Festival im internationalen Wettbewerb, wo er mit dem Preis für die Beste Kamera ausgezeichnet wurde, und lief anschließend auf über vierzig Filmfestivals weltweit. Unter anderem wurde der Film für den den Preis der deutschen Filmkritik für das Beste Debüt, das Beste Drehbuch und die Beste Musik nominiert und war in der Vorauswahl für den Deutschen Filmpreis. Nach seinem deutschen Kinostart im Herbst 2022 kam der Film im Mai 2023 in die nordamerikanischen Kinos. Natalia Sinelnikova ist Alumna des des Mentoringprogramms der Deutschlandstiftung für Integration „Geh deinen Weg“, sowie Berlinale Talents- und ZFF-Academy-Alumna und Mitglied der European Film Academy.
